Course Overview

This course is the first level in our Middle School ELA curriculum.

This course is designed for students who are learning the foundations and basic of English.

This course focuses on English fundamentals and helps with fluency, grammar, spelling, and basic sentence structure.

This course acts as a bridge to the ELA beginner course.

Pathways is National Geographic Learning's new five-level academic skills series that features reading & writing and listening & speaking strands to help learners develop the language skills needed to achieve academic success.

Learners develop academic literacy skills through content, images and videos from National Geographic.

This innovative series provides learners with a pathway to success!

Course Objectives

  • Our ELA courses help students master the essential skills required for high school, college, career, and life in today’s global economy through adhering to United States Common Core Standards.
    Students advance through the four levels of ELA from Foundations to ELA Advanced.
    Students will be placed based on a diagnostic assessment which focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and listening proficiency.
  • The ELA standards align with college expectations in 6 domains
    1) Language (conventions, knowledge, vocabulary)
    2) Reading: Informational (ideas, details, structure, range, text complexity)
    3) Reading: Literature (ideas, details, structure, range, text complexity)
    4) Reading: Foundational (concepts, phonological awareness, recognition, fluency)
    5) Speaking and Listening (comprehension, collaboration, presentation)
    6) Writing (type, purpose, production, distribution, research, range of writing)
