Point Avenue's TOEFL program prepares students for official language assessment by immersing students in interpersonal communication processes. Course Objectives

  • Pre- TOEFL: Point Avenue's program prepares students for official language assessment by immersing students in interpersonal communication processes. This course develops students from age 12-15 in to be more fluent, coherent, and effective multi-skilled communicators by utilizing the four assessed TOEFL skills as catalysts for language advancement.
  • TOEFL 101 (Beginner) is a foundational course for students who score between 60-80 on the diagnostic test. The primary focus of TOEFL 101 is to expand students' academic vocabulary, specific skill knowledge, and subsequent topic awareness. Each section of the class is taught using an integrated approach to reflect the official test format. Upon completion, students will be able to:
    Effectively outline and map reading passages.
    Understand the structure and flow of academic conversations and lectures.
    Write basic academic paragraphs.
  • TOEFL 201 (Intermediate) is designed for students who score between 80 to 105 on the diagnostic or official test. 201 Level courses move faster. Students will improve:
    Their ability to grammatically dissect reading passages.
    Increase their reading comprehension and speed
    Comprehend and identify main ideas and details in the Listening section.
    In addition, students will learn how to generate organized and academic speaking and writing responses promptly and how to effectively utilize various complex sentence structures on both the speaking and writing sections.
  • TOEFL 301 (Advanced) is designed for students who score a 105+ on a diagnostic or official assessment. This course reviews all concepts, methods, and strategies for each section. The vocabulary, reading, listening, speaking, and writing workload will be increased significantly to cultivate students' ability to score as close to a perfect score as possible. The primary focus of this course targets speaking and writing mastery.
