Course Overview

Point Avenue's IELTS program prepares students for official language assessment by immersing students in the processes of interpersonal communication. This course develops students to be more fluent, coherent, and effective multi-skilled communicators by utilizing the four assessed IELTS skills as catalysts for language advancement. Course Objectives

  • IELTS 101 (Basic User): This is an introductory level course for beginner students who test between a band 5-6 on a diagnostic and who have a CEFR A1 - A2 vocabulary and grammar foundation.
    Beginner-level courses explore the Listening and Speaking (Part 1) sections of the test along with the Writing and Reading sections of the General module as an introduction to academic reading and writing. A further concentration on foundational grammatical proficiency and remedial vocabulary expansion enable general English communication development.
  • IELTS 201 (Independent User): This is an intermediate to upper intermediate level course for between students who score between a band 6-7 and who have a CEFR B1-B2 vocabulary and grammar proficiency.
    Intermediate level courses focus on IELTS vocabulary & topic knowledge expansion, and critical reading & analysis. Students' understanding of correctly utilizing grammatical conventions when writing and speaking is also a primary focus at this level.
  • IELTS 301 (Proficient User): This is an advanced level course for proficient students who score above a band 7 and possess a CEFR C1-C2 vocabulary and grammar proficiency. This is a one-semester course.
    Advanced level courses focus on all four skill mastery, emphasizing the Writing and Speaking sections. The advancement of writing & speaking coherency, construction, and elaboration are the primary objectives for this course. Students will learn how to utilize complex grammatical structures and academic lexical items when communicating in a written or conversational format.
